Evidence Synthesis and Translation Training Workshop Strengthens Immunization Decision-Making Capacity
The Ethiopian Vaccination and Immunization Academy successfully conducted an Evidence Synthesis and Translation Training Workshop to strengthen the capacity of immunization professionals, researchers, and public health practitioners in generating, synthesizing, interpreting, and translating evidence into actionable decisions. The training highlighted the importance of evidence-informed approaches in improving immunization programme performance, strengthening health systems, and advancing equitable access to vaccines.
The Evidence Synthesis and Translation Training Workshop was held from November 27 - 30, 2025.
Public health professionals, researchers, immunization experts, and programme stakeholders participated in the Evidence Synthesis and Translation Training Workshop organized by the Ethiopian Vaccination and Immunization Academy. The training aimed to enhance participants' capacity to systematically generate, assess, synthesize, and translate evidence to support effective immunization policies and programmes.
The workshop provided a platform for participants to explore approaches for transforming diverse sources of information, including research findings, surveillance data, routine health information, surveys, and programme evaluations, into meaningful evidence that can guide decision-making.
Through interactive sessions, practical exercises, group discussions, and participant presentations, attendees developed practical skills in evidence synthesis, data triangulation, interpretation of findings, and knowledge translation.
A key focus of the training was strengthening the connection between evidence generation and programme action. Participants explored methods for identifying evidence gaps, assessing data quality, synthesizing findings from multiple sources, and communicating evidence effectively to policymakers and programme managers.
Key Areas Covered During the Training
- Understanding principles of evidence-informed decision-making in immunization programmes.
- Mapping and assessing multiple immunization data sources, including routine health information and survey data.
- Applying data triangulation approaches to identify programme challenges and opportunities.
- Translating synthesized evidence into actionable recommendations, policy briefs, and implementation strategies.
- Strengthening communication of scientific evidence among researchers, decision-makers, and health practitioners.
The workshop represents an important step toward building a stronger culture of evidence use within immunization programmes. By strengthening the ability of professionals to generate and apply high-quality evidence, the Ethiopian Vaccination and Immunization Academy continues to support improved programme planning, better policy decisions, and more equitable immunization outcomes.
The Academy extends its appreciation to all facilitators, participants, partners, and collaborators whose contributions supported the successful implementation of the Evidence Synthesis and Translation Training Workshop. The Academy remains committed to advancing evidence-based practices and strengthening immunization systems through knowledge generation, capacity building, and collaboration.
Strengthening Immunization Through Evidence
Evidence synthesis and translation bridge the gap between research and action, ensuring that scientific knowledge contributes to stronger policies, improved programme implementation, and better health outcomes for communities.
